I believe it to be true. As firmly as I believe in the fragility of the human spirit. Did I say spirit? I meant genitalia.

Kevin Lee of Vancouver’s Sunday Service improv troupe plays Agent McGillicutty, a file clerk who is reluctantly plunged into the middle of a gathering storm. Expect these scenes to be full of strangeness, foreboding and yuk-yuks, a staple flavor for our dear Chronicles.

I’ll be posting a filmic vista of this eerie land soon, to whet some appetite.

What are The Library Chronicles?

In short, they are an ongoing, online series of short films. For anyone who has ever enjoyed the movies Brazil, Eraserhead, and/or Plan 9 From Outer Space, this show is going to fit your demented tastes like a brain-cozy.

In the gloomiest of futures, in a land called The Future, all art and knowledge will be outlawed. Our story takes place amid The Future’s dark, industrial environs. Beneath the deep alleys of Sector Eighty-Twelve, an underground Library is operated by a most unusual individual and his “Unspeakable”, a sinister something lurking in the Library’s deepest bowels. The agents of a vast, controlling bureaucracy are following the cold trails through the melancholy city in search of such libraries - and so is Scooter, a chipper young chimneysweep who happens upon The Library on one foreboding evening. Scooter is right at home in the ashen streets, always introducing himself to the ghostly shadows that haunt the decrepit alleys and shadowy buildings.

With the agents in his tracks and faced with the unimaginable prospect of reading a real book, Scooter crosses the threshold into the Library - an event with farther-reaching repurcussions than anyone realizes - thus sealing a fate for the world most disturbing indeed.

If you haven’t, see our current episodes in the Chapters section. The above synopsis mostly refers to the upcoming episode, you don’t really need to know anything before watching from Chapter 1 (it’s a figure-out-as-you-go affair). If you like what you see, there’s reason to be excited about the forthcoming installment, Bureaucratic Prologue, as it’s a severely larger production than the current episodes, with a longer runtime by about 5-fold, and much higher production values.

Some of you visiting this site may be arriving from a strange thing called “A Cultural Study in the Modern Evolution of Social Standards”. If so: Bless you.

Truth is, it was a ruse! All to get you to the real meat and gravy of this operation: The Chronicles themselves. The animation was created by me, based on an old comic strip my friend Collin and I did back in High School. I threw the link to Chronicles at the end so some good may be done from this unimaginable creation, because my current major goal as a filmmaker is to finish the next installment of this grandiose grotesquery of a series. Although that doesn’t rule out the possibility of more of these animations in the future - our pile of old comics is long indeed.

If you enjoyed Social Standards, it means you’re a twisted individual. Congratulations, you have the prerequisite to enjoy The Library Chronicles. Make yourself at home.

For those of you who haven’t seen Social Standards, you’ve been warned.
